About

Welcome to My Blog!
My name is Jeff Kinney. I write a blog that’s full of expert advice to help people who live with paralysis become the best version of themselves, one step at a time.
I’m a journalist, former attorney, and lifetime crutch user/part-time wheelchair user with spina bifida. After graduating with a B.S. in journalism from the University of Illinois and earning a law degree from the University of Pennsylvania, for almost two decades I’ve worked as a reporter and editor at Bloomberg and other major news organizations.
Outside of work, when I’m not spending time with my wife and son, scuba diving, kayaking, camping, or hiking, I’m reading voraciously about everything from science to art history.
The inspiration for my blog is simple: Living with paralysis can be hard — even soul crushing at our worst moments. I struggle routinely with frustrations big and small, and I’m sure you do, too.
All of us need some help from time to time.

Skiing with my wife Hilary. It didn’t go well, but I was glad I gave it a shot. More on that in a future post.
To that end, I use my journalism skills to glean wisdom from top experts on how to live your best life with paralysis – in-depth articles you won’t find anywhere else. And I scour the internet for breaking news on the latest adaptive technology and other disability-related information.
Occasionally, I also will tell the stories of people with spinal cord injuries or disease who’ve managed to beat the odds, surmount huge obstacles, and achieve their goals. Read about their victories and struggles, and learn practical life lessons you can apply every day.
I’ll relate some of my personal journey as well. For example, you can read about how I struggled with my physical limitations on a trip to Alaska and internalized a valuable lesson that I knew intellectually but had never fully taken to heart.
We all have stories to share. Hopefully you’ll email me some of yours so we can learn from each other.
I cover health, recreation, relationships and life skills, and disability-related news, science, and technology. My posts focus on issues related to spinal cord injuries and diseases, but you’ll find helpful information no matter what your disability.

I also want to acknowledge caregivers and the amazing, selfless work they do day after day. This blog is for you, too, and I hope you will learn something from it.
Sign up for my monthly email newsletter so we can communicate directly. I’ll send you short summaries of interesting and informative news stories, technology, and scientific developments related to paralysis that I didn’t blog about. I’ll also send you some valuable additional resources from time to time. I will not share your name or email address with anyone for any reason.
Please note that nothing on this blog is intended to be, or should be considered, medical or legal advice. Consult your health care provider regarding specific medical concerns or treatment, and consult your attorney regarding legal matters.
Join me on this journey of discovery and personal growth. Together, we can thrive with paralysis.
